BAttery SubStation (BASS)
Lost power? Energy costs too high? System voltage causing unreliable service? Want to keep your trains running on time?
SOLUTION: BAttery SubStation (BASS)
IMPulse NC is working in a Public-Private Partnership with Sacramento Regional Transit (RT) and PB Transit and Rail Systems (SF Office) on a project to address the above questions. IMPulse NC is developing an alternative energy supply called BASS that utilizes battery technology to provide power for electrified transit systems. The BASS will reduce adjacent traction power substation utility loads, provide peak shaving capability, boost system voltage, recharge from train power regeneration, improve overall reliability and act as a standby emergency power source in case of a system-wide utility outage.
RT is providing a site for the BASS installation and connection to its transit system. RT will monitor and evaluate its system operation via the BASS. PB Transit will collect, process and validate the power system data. IMPulse NC will provide the BASS for up to one year for RT's use and potential purchase. This unit will be available for on-site inspection and review, via appointments.
The BASS utilizes a modular design that can handle simple trolley systems to Light Rail systems to complex heavy Metro systems. The BASS has absolutely no AC Utility interface. The unit is portable and requires no concrete foundation. It connects directly to the contact system (contact rail or OCS). The BASS is monitored and controlled via wireless communications.
The cost benefit of no utility infrastructure or costly site construction, along with a simple installation, will allow for greater flexibility to meet the demands of underpowered systems without expensive substation and system upgrades. Not to mention the added safety and security benefits.
Please watch for additional information as we proceed with this project. The BASS is expected to go into operation later this year. |
