IMPulse NC, INC., as an international transit electrification company, acquired the EMC Traction Operating Unit of Ansaldo Transmissione e Distribuzione S.r.l. in 2000. EMC Traction S.r.l. produces DC Breakers, Switchgear and Contactors, from its offices and factory located in Milan, Italy.

EMC's history goes back to the early 1920's when it was established as Compagnia Generale Di Elettricita` which was primarily owned and managed by General Electric USA. The General Electric type "JR" DC circuit breaker was used as the platform for today's very successful type "IR" DC circuit breaker provided worldwide by EMC. EMC provides DC circuit breakers for rolling stock and fixed installations as well as numerous types of DC contactors and resistors.

The IR6000ML is a DC single pole, magnetic blow-out, trip free, mechanically latched, air circuit breaker. The breaker's closing mechanism uses an independent motor operator. Breakers are designed in fixed or withdrawable configuration.

The IR6000 is similar to the IR6000ML, but uses either a permanent magnet or holding coil type instantaneous overcurrent release. The Breaker is equipped with a direct acting bi-directional over-current trip device.

The IR2000 is a DCCB single pole, magnetic blow-out, trip free, air circuit breaker. The breaker's closing mechanism is the independent type motor operated. The IR2000 CB is held closed by holding coil or by permanent magnet and is equipped with a direct acting over-current trip device which may be either uni-directional or bi-directional.

All insulating materials used in the breakers are flame retardant, low smoke, zero halogen emission and confirm to the latest standards applicable to mass transit and railway installations.

EMC also offers complete DC Switchgear assemblies "DIACLAD" to current EN Standards for international projects.
